July Stated Meeting- McAllen Lodge #1110, A.F. & A.M.

McAllen Lodge #1110, A.F. & A.M. will be having its monthly stated meeting on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Masonic Temple 118 N. 11th St. in McAllen, Texas.  Dinner will be served at 6:30 P.M. and the stated meeting will begin at 7:30 P.M.  W.M. Gustavo F. Olivares will be giving two educational programs-- "The Laws of the Grand Lodge of Texas" and  "Improve in Masonic Knowledge."  The lodge will also be introducing the Motto and theme for the year.

This is going to be an exciting and historic year for McAllen lodge!  We are going to kick off the first stated meeting of this Masonic year by anouncing the motto and theme of McAllen Lodge for the 2010-2011 year.  Lumen luminum will be this year's motto for McAllen lodge.

If you recall your ceremonies and chatechisms, you will remember the symbolic significance of receiving light.  Remember that as an Entered Apprentice you desired light, as a Fellowcraft you desired further light, and as a Master Mason you desired more light.  Part of becoming a Master Mason involved becoming enlightened-- acquiring Masonic knowledge and acquiring truth about ourselves and our world.

Fiat Lux (Let there be light) is a motto of the Grand Lodge of Texas.  These words can be found decorating the East above the Grand Master's Station in the Grand Lodge Room in Waco, Texas.  Fiat Lux is an allusion to the symbolic light that we all received in the course of our ceremonies as we became Master Masons.

Lumen luminum is also an allusion to that symbolic light that we received.  But it means a lot more.  Lumen Luminum is a Latin phrase which literally translates to "light of lights" or "light illuminated."  In other words, it means to take light and make it brighter.  Symbolically, it signifies our quest to take the knowledge we received, and use it to aquire even more knowledge.

With this in mind, the theme for this year will be "Excellence in Masonic Education."  As Masons, we must strive to further our knowledge and work diligently to make our light burn brighter.  As members and leaders of McAllen Lodge, we are going to make a concerted effort to become better aquainted with our Masonic law, our Masonic ritual, and our Masonic history.  We will each become familiar with the Constitution and Law Book of the Grand Lodge of Texas.  We will each get certified in opening and closing the Lodge (Maybe even an A Certificate).  And we will each learn the history of McAllen Lodge and the history of masonry in Texas.  By doing this, we will truely become a beacon of light in the Rio Grande Valley!

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Worshipful Master Gustavo Fonseca Olivares, McAllen Lodge #1110
