Allies of the Alamo

To All Masons of Texas

Brethren,

I am pleased to inform you that the Masons of Texas have been asked to participate in a significant Texas historical event.

On Tuesday, February 23rd (the day in history that the Siege of the Alamo began) the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will begin a monumental project to assure the survival of Texas' most significant shrine.  The "Allies of the Alamo" project will bring Texans together to provide necessary funding to support the operation and upkeep of the Alamo and grounds.

To kick off the membership drive, there will be a depiction of Col. William Barrett Travis drawing a line in the sand.  Just as it was done in 1836 to assure Texas' preservation, the symbolic act of drawing the line in the sand and asking all who would fight to preserve the Alamo to "step across the line"...  will assure the preservation of the Alamo.  The Masons of Texas are especially honored to have been chosen to provide the representative who will draw the line in the sand.  PGM David Counts has been asked, and has agreed to perform this symbolic act.

If you can attend (and I hope you can - we need to fill the place up) reply email to me at:  ke5r@tx.rr.com and let me know you will be there.  There will be special reserved seating for us.

Also, be sure to bring your apron, and an "extra" if you have one.  At events like this, we ALWAYS find brothers who did not bring an apron.

Dear Citizens,

On behalf of The Daughters of The Republic of Texas (DRT), Patti Atkins, President General, Virginia Van Cleave, Alamo Committee Chairman, and Sharon Skrobarcek, Allies of The Alamo Liaison, we write to invite you and your family to the inauguration of The Allies of The Alamo membership program. This star studded historic event will be held at The Alamo on February 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in Alamo Hall. We encourage you to be one of the first to respond to this “Call to Arms,” and "Defend the Alamo" by joining The Allies of The Alamo membership program. Everyone who becomes a member will receive a lapel pin, as well as other items of interest, to be distinguished as a supporter of Texas, its dynamic history, The Alamo and its heroes who represent probably the single most significant symbol of liberty and its cost.

As you know, the DRT is committed to the conservation of the historic grounds of The Alamo, and all monies generated will be spent 100% at The Alamo for maintenance, preservation, and operations. Dr. Sharon Skrobarcek and Tony Caridi, Director of Marketing and Development for The Alamo, are available upon request to visit your groups and present information concerning the membership program.

Attached is an invitation to the inaugural event and information on joining the program. We urge you to attend the event on February 23, 2010, and to invite your friends, family, and others you feel would have an interest. Reserved seating will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of The Alamo. Please let us know if you plan to attend the event by calling Barbara Wright at 210-655-5402 or email bwright211@att.net.

This membership program will raise critical dollars to carry on The Alamo tradition to defend the ideals of freedom and honor for generations to come. We know that you want to be a part of this effort.

God Bless Texas,
Barbara Wright and Mary Carmack
