About the time Jack Patterson organized his first blood drive, Leonard P. Harvey was organizing the program that would become his own legacy to Texas Masons, The Golden Trowel Award.
The Golden Trowel is the highest award a Texas Lodge can bestow upon one of its members, and on February 28, 2012 at Garland 441 Past Grand Master Leonard P. Harvey will present this award to Bro. Jack Patterson for his work with The Gift of Life program and all his other accomplishments for and in Freemasonry.
Over 20 years ago Bro. Patterson was instrumental in organizing the Gift of Life Blood Donation Program in North Texas. Through his tireless efforts he has encouraged nearly 900 other Texas Lodges to also become involved. Texas Masons have collected well over 50,000 units of blood and have met the blood expenses for not only the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, but for 22 additional Shriner Hospitals in Texas and around the United States.
All are encouraged to attend to honor this very special man and Mason. There will be a dinner, beginning at 6:00 PM, and the ceremonies will occur in the Lodge Room at 7:00 PM. This is an open meeting, so friends, wives, Masons and non-Masons are invited. We hope to see you there.
Please RSVP to garland441@gmail.com with the number of guests in your party, so that the Stewards may prepare ample food for everyone.
